Obituary for
Sarah Elizabeth Gilbert
Sarah Elizabeth Gilbert, 86, of Mechanicsville, MD, formerly of Silver Spring, MD, passed away on November 15, 2023 at her home. Born on June 16, 1937 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Mattie Day and the late Franklin R. Mason. Sarah was the loving wife of the late Aaron A. Gilbert, whom she married in Silver Spring, MD, and who preceded her in death on October 8, 2001. She is survived by her children Cindy Ford of Mechanicsville, MD, Michael Gilbert of Mechanicsville, MD, Linda Windsor of Mechanicsville, MD, and Lisa Gilbert of Great Mills, MD, nine grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Mason.
Sarah graduated from Blair High School in 1954, and moved to St. Mary’s County, MD from Cheverly, MD in 1973. She was a co-owner of Tri-County Drywall for 25 years, retiring in 2002. Sarah enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, shopping, cooking, baking, and playing with her grandkids.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 20, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM with Pastor Dennis Fay officiating. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Bryan M. Clarke, Aaron Gatton, Jackson Mattingly, Logan Shlegle, Treston Rivera, and Randy Rollins.
