| Charles Albert "Fuzzy" Payne, Sr., 79, of Chaptico, MD (formerly of Camp Springs, MD), died April 28, 2004 in Washington Hospital Center. Born April 25, 1925 in Clinton, MD, he was the son of the late Charles R. and Nora Hutchinson Payne. He was the husband of Louise B. Payne who he married on January 26, 1949 in Forestville, MD and who predeceased him on June 16, 1986 in Washington, D.C. He was the father of Kenneth Payne of Woodbridge, VA, Betty Lee of Dubre, KY, Charles Payne, Jr. of Chaptico, MD, Joyce Perdue of Swan Point, MD and Ross Payne of Colorado Springs, CO. He was brother to the late Louise Crossman, William Payne and Doris Payne. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Mr. Payne graduated from Surrattsville High School. He moved to St. Mary's County in 1972 from Camp Springs, MD and worked as a heavy equipment operator for Seven Stars Aggregates until 1989 when he retired with 40 years service. He enjoyed watching football and baseball and playing cards with his friends. The family will receive friends today, Friday, April 30, 2004 at the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 PM with prayers at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Saturday, May 1, 2004 at 10:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Chapel with Bishop William McClean officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland, MD. Pallbearers for Mr. Payne will be Timothy Payne, Jason Payne, Randy Payne, Sr., Eric Perdue, Brent Lantham and Randy Payne, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeffrey Lee, Steven Payne and James Schriber.
