Meade, MD and was later assigned to the 179th Infantry during active combat in the Korean War and received the following medals:  Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars, United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and the National Defense Service Medal.  While enlisted in the United States Army, George proudly obtained the rank of Sergeant on July 27, 1953.  George received an honorable discharge from active duty but decided to continue to serve his country in the United States Army Reserve for eight years.  In 1953, George accepted employment with the Montgomery County School System at Somerset Elementary School as a custodian.  He retired in 1994 after 41 years of service and received numerous certificates and commendations at an awards ceremony.Pallbearers will be Charles Carter, Roy Chesley, Walter Jones, Jr. (CJ), Windell Price (Benny) and George Somerville.   Honorary Pallbearers will include Karen Absher, Kimberly Barney, Tanya Butler, James Collins, William Hebb, Debra Kahavkin, Renee Price, Sotanya Rushing, Yvostay Rushing, Nikcole Russell and Barbara Somerville.

"When I think about Uncle George I can't help but remember meeting him and Uncle Wellington for the first time. Those memories are filled with big bags of potato chips, coffee, and Smokey the greyhound. He always seemed to have the biggest, fluffiest cats. I remember his tears that flowed all the time. I remember his sweetness and the last words he ever said to me, "Nessy you have turned into a wonderful young woman." There will never be anyone like him. "

"My dear brother George will always be remembered for his generosity, love of family and friends. I remember growing up and hearing the news that he was on his way home. I was so excited I could barely sleep the night before. Georges homecoming was always a reason to celebrate! My mom would be in the kitchen fixing all his favorite foods that the whole family enjoyed. Another great memory was of George playing baseball in our backyard with his nieces and nephews, they all loved his gentle ways and fun loving spirit. You will always be in my heart. I will always remember you. You are now at rest. May Jehovah watch over your children until the day we see you again. With all my love, Your sister (Mickey)"
